Connecting a wireless VINT hub

Post by snufflyBull9906 »

Hello I recently got my first VINT hub from here and was trying to connect it but whenever I would open the control panel I saw it said I needed to download something else called bonjour. I was just wondering if that is needed to connect a wireless VINT hub or not. also is there any way to connect it to my computer with wires since some networks I am on I am not allowed to connect it to so it makes it harder for me to work in certain places

Bonjour is only needed for the control panel to automatically discover Phidgets connected to other computers or wireless hubs in the network so they can be listed in the Phidgets and Network Phidgets tabs. If you don't want to install bonjour, you can still access those Phidgets by adding their servers manually by going to File -> Add Server and adding the server name/IP address and port.

The HUB5000 can be connected to your computer directly via ethernet, but first you must assign it a static IP address to both, since your laptop doesn't have a DHCP server that will automatically assign one like a router or network switch would. The easiest way to assign the static IP address for the hub is to access the web configuration page for the HUB5000 in a network where you can connect to the network, and go to Network -> Ethernet Settings -> IPv4 Mode and choose "Static". Then you can assign an IP address and connect to the HUB5000 using that address when connecting directly next time.

To assign a static IP to your laptop, you can search online for the steps involved depending on your OS. Remember to assign them within the same subnet.
