Driving a fan with DCC1002_0 Motor Phidget

Post by wolfpack342 »

I'm looking at driving a brushless fan with the 4A DC Motor Phidget. The purpose is simple fan speed control.

Would there be any issue connecting the positive pin of the fan to M+ and the ground pin of the fan to ground? That should ensure that a negative differential cannot be applied to the fan backwards but wanted to be sure I'm not missing anything.

Do you have a datasheet for the fan you're hoping to control? It's hard to say for sure that there'd be compatibility without knowing more.

If the voltage of the fan matches the voltage of the controller, then I would expect it to be able to control it with M+ and M-. As for wiring it to ground instead of M- to avoid negative duty cycle- I can't recommend this because our motor controllers are isolated, and M- at positive duty cycle is not necessarily equivalent to ground.
