connecting the rfid reader to a stepper motor

Postby dyebolynn » Mon Jun 16, 2014 8:08 am

Hi, thanks for reading!

I would like to ask if i can control a stepper motor with the rfid reader? I am using MAX (cycling 74) to write the program, or would it be better to use other softwares? Do I need a certain driver to power the stepper motor?

Sorry I have a lot of questions, this is my first robotic project! Thanks!

Yes, you can control a stepper motor with an RFID reader and a stepper controller with Phidgets in MAX/MSP.

You would need to buy an RFID reader (like the 1024) and a stepper controller (like the 1067). You would also need a power supply for the stepper controller. Once you have the hardware set up, you'd need to write a program that opens both the RFID reader and the stepper controller, and then you can send commands to the stepper controller whenever the RFID reader reads a specific tag.

Thanks! That cleared my mind a lot!!
Does it have to be a phidgets stepper controller or can it be any kind for it to work with the rfid reader?
Thanks!!

As long as the stepper controller can be sent commands from your MAX program, it should work fine with the Phidget RFID.
