Best device for the following...

Postby cizzi » Sun Dec 07, 2014 9:25 am

I have a 21 inch by 1 inch piece of wood that is attached to a base with a screw to let it tilt up and down by hand, it has a piece of plastic tubing tie wrapped on it so water can flow tru it to, my question is, if i want to automate this up and down movement, can i do it with a servo? if yes which one? do i need something strong like 3200_0 - Hitec HS-815BB Mega Sail Servo that you sell? or can i get something cheaper? or do I need a linear actuator or perhaps something else I missed completely?

Here's a picture of the arm so you understand better

Assuming it isn't balsa wood I don't think any of our servos have enough torque to get the job done. Really you should be looking at using a linear actuator for this sort of thing, they are designed for just this purpose.
